IUI / Andrology

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a common first-line treatment for infertility. It involves placing specially prepared sperm directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation to enhance the chances of fertilization. IUI can be performed using either fresh or frozen sperm from the partner, or frozen donor sperm.

As the initial step in assisted conception, IUI requires three dedicated spaces: an Andrology Lab, an Insemination Room, and a Semen Collection Room. The insemination procedure can also be performed in a standard operation theatre (OT). An area of approximately 100 to 150 sq. ft. is ideal, keeping in mind the need to accommodate evolving equipment and advanced techniques.

Indications for IUI

Male infertility, Cervical factor, Endometriosis, Unexplained infertility, Female humoral antisperm antibodies are the indications for IUI. Doctors might try 3 to 6 cycles of IUI, and if these are not successful, one recommends more advanced methods such as IVF.

Indian Sperm Counting Chamber

The Chamber is composed of two parts:
The lower main part has a glass base wherein the centre portion has been coated with a metal layer on which there is grid of 0.01 sq. mm. This part has been lowered by 10 microns as compared to the rest of the chamber. It is on this portion that a very small drop of the sample is placed.
